South Africa still singing struggle songs

Reconciliation, according to google dictionary is defined as
”the restoration of friendly relations, "

or “the action of making one view or belief compatible with another”. I was watching the TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Council) sessions, from the SABC YouTube channel where they had the old archives tapings of the sessions. Listening to some of the stories, made me cry, both white and black came with their own stories, of the pain caused by the system of Apartheid in South Africa. I could not help but focus on the white people more, I listened to some of their stories, of how they lost their loved ones as well. My heart bled as I listened to their stories, but I didn’t shed a tear, instead I questioned the motives behind those killings. Black people had suffered so much loss, pain, hurt, hatred and anger. They turned and did the same to the man who was oppressing them and killing them. Was the black mans killing justified?  I watched a movie called “I...

Solonge Knowles's Lens

I lover her free spirit, she has not conformed to the norm in hollywood. I love how she uses Aztec prints in her outfits. i love her style, i feel like she is bringing Africa to America, it's wired, her fashion is inspired by Africa, but she inspires fashion in Africa, with her African prints; i don't get it. Solonge has never been one to shy away from experimenting with hair, and she gets it right every time. Everyone is doing box braids now because she started bringing them back to the main light. Hey love this young sister. Look at these prints1 Gotta love and appreciate her the fashion.

What is African American culture?

Today i went to the Black Student Union meeting at Bellarmine University. I never realised that African Americans have so much cultural challenges, from within their own black community and the outside. Today the topic of discussion was "What is Black Culture?" A very intriguing question.  I think no one can really define what black culture is because culture is so diluted, culture is determined by different elements of different places people live in. Culture can never really be definite because of all these elements that contribute to it. It's more like the domino effect, once touched by another element it causes change to the original element. So what can you attribute to culture if you can never really fully define it? Being South African, i find that we have is much easier, because we have the privilege of having African traditions and having African culture. What is the difference? Traditions are practices that belong to your tribe or family and have been part of ...
